Topic: Why are you interested in iRedMail?

Hi, guys.

I was asked to answer this question, and i want to hear from you.

Why are you interested in iRedMail? write down your opinions below please smile

  1. Easy and fast to deploy without pain?

  2. Full-featured?

  3. Stable?

  4. (one of) the right way to build an open source mail server solution? Most components used in iRedMail are provided by Linux distributions officially. it means iRedMail users can get software update support as long time as the distribution itself.

  5. Great customer support via forum? Installation, migration, intergration.

  6. the project is being supported and actively worked on. @gscott187

  7. have the full participation of the technical community and hence knowledge base benefits. @gscott187

  8. It uses mainstream, tried and tested components. @gscott187

typo there zhang @ opitions.

hmm, why am I interested? well basically aside from its easy and fast to deploy, the support via forum is great. Almost all my questions are answered.

Re: Why are you interested in iRedMail?

Easy, fast and WORKING deployment are my main reasons. Secondary reasons are that the project is being supported and actively worked on. For me, a pre-requisite for any project of this nature is to have the full participation of the technical community and hence knowledge base benefits are significant. I also like the fact that mainstream, tried and tested components are used.

Re: Why are you interested in iRedMail?

I was looking for a quick solution to replacing a dead mailserver.  I've always been partial to the postfix/mysql/dovecot solution presented at workaround.org, but that tutorial is in transition, with the new Lenny version not yet ready.  So I stumbled upon iRedMail at howtoforge.com and thought it sounded promising.

It actually worked out FAR better than I could have imagined.  Within a few minutes, I had a new server working, and it included every feature I wanted.

I'm still in the process of tweaking it to my liking, so you'll hear more dumb questions from me in the next few days, but the server is working, everyone is happy, and my job is saved. :-)

My thanks to those involved in iRedMail for developing an extraordinarily useful tool.

Re: Why are you interested in iRedMail?

My answers are
1. Fast to deploy...takes not more then 30 minutes to get it up and running
2. Some features can be still added, and some can be improved but I have all that I need at the moment.
3.Stable. Only some issues with LDAP database on unclean shutdown but this is an LDAP issue.
4.Use CentOS...and everything is super fine.
5. This forum is great...hope it will remain so. After deploying and installing when having free time will answer questions if dealed with problem.
6.This is indeed good because a lot of good projects stopped development. I will try to make donations on regular basic when I'll get my credit card.
7.Yes
8.All the components are tested by time and the community.

So I just want to say thanks to the developers and good luck in the future.

Re: Why are you interested in iRedMail?

Mainly for those reasons:

1)
I want a mail system that is so-called KGS (Known good Set) i.e. several core components (postfix, clamav, etc) just work well together and don't step on each others toes

2)
fast deployment

3)
repetetive deployment which guarantees to cater fot the exact same result e.g. depoying the same setup for 2 or more customers

4)
something that provides email as well as mailing lists

5)
project needs to be active i.e. forseable and ongoing development

6)
have the full participation of the technical community and hence knowledge base benefits.

7)
It uses mainstream, tried and tested components. For example, there is citadel, a great piece of software but then I want mainstream components that's why I am here ... at iRedMail ...

8)
has to work flawless within OpenVZ VEs (Virtual Environments) http://sunoano.name/ws/public_xhtml/openvz.html It seems iRedMail considers that important which is good. That's why I am here. That's why I am going to stay.

9)
stable i.e. in case of Debian, if it picks from stable repos, that is good ... peace of mind. Also as mentioned, it's good iRedMail is more or less a smart metapackage since, if all goes wrong, the power of the underlying distribution makes it possible to not get in huge troubles because of some possible SLAs (Service Level Agreements) one might have with customers.

10)
as mandatory as is the must-be support for OpenVZ, for us things need to work with Debian. We are on a 100% Debian infrastructure. That is not going to change. Actually I think it's quite the opposite ... the number of Debian installations resp. free software in general is going to see major boosts in the future. Just recently I read an article that China has now become the biggest "User" of free software. Imho we will see an explosion of free software usage within the next two or so decades.

Re: Why are you interested in iRedMail?

My mom could install iRedMail and use it... that's why!

Re: Why are you interested in iRedMail?

  1. It's based on Linux (i.e. fast, stable, not a resource-eater, supported by community et cetera)

  2. It allows the SysAd to install all the core component in only one setup process and in a few minutes.

  3. This is a COMPLETE solution. A hard work is commonly needed to have all that components working together with no errors.

Re: Why are you interested in iRedMail?

I totally agree what Simonbouchard said "My mom could install iRedMail and use it... that's why!"

I spent almost 2 weeks but still failed to have a postfix mail server run.
Then, I found iRedMail. iredMail provided everything I was looking for--virtual domains, virtual users,SSl, webmail, anti-spam, virus scan, quota... and thanks to the simplicity of the iRedmail, I was able to set up successfully a RHEL based mail server just by several click! With its rich online documentation, simple automation and realtime support, everybody can set up a full-featured mail server in no time at all! It is absolutely an easy configuration, zero maintenance solution.
My mail server has been running great over 1 year. Thanks again for this amazing program... Absolutely amazing.

Yes, this is the most interesting property. There was some Mail-Server with simple installation such as Zimbra but not easy to inherit its packet for other system, so should not think about upgrade.

  2. Stable?
It will live as long as the postfix

  3. Full-featured?
Yes, but not enough. We can wait it later.

  4. Great customer support via forum? Installation, migration, integration.
Like other open-source project, we should not ask too much. But the current can not be better smile I am satisfied. It seems that you (and your team) just focus to some Linux distro, especially RH family. I don't think I know much about Ubuntu but I will try to help you to improve the support in Ubuntu better.

Yes. But iRedMail already supports RHEL/CentOS & Ubuntu/Debian smile

It's great that more users join this community, share mail server knowledge, and help others smile

Well, so far I am the only one lurking around at #iredmail on freenode; it would be really nice if others would join me there.

I wrote up some info in order to get going with all this IRC magic in case somebody is new to that whole shebang http://sunoano.name/ws/public_xhtml/mis … ith_pidgin

Full-featured?

Those are my reasons. Setting up a full-featured mail server could take days. I also tried various Web interfaces such as cPanel and Plesk but they are quite buggy. I just needed a script to configure the base mail system for me and then I could go on customizing it.

ZhangHuangbin wrote:

Stable?

Well, I've just installed iRedMain/Admin on my new server and it seems to work flawlessy out-of-box. I have to ask a couple of question though (in another thread).

Re: Why are you interested in iRedMail?

The main reason I chose iredmail was because of the complete package setup.

Makes things easier to maintain and eaiser to get support.
