hmm, why am I interested? well basically aside from its easy and fast to deploy, the support via forum is great. Almost all my questions are answered.

I was looking for a quick solution to replacing a dead mailserver.  I've always been partial to the postfix/mysql/dovecot solution presented at workaround.org, but that tutorial is in transition, with the new Lenny version not yet ready.  So I stumbled upon iRedMail at howtoforge.com and thought it sounded promising.

It actually worked out FAR better than I could have imagined.  Within a few minutes, I had a new server working, and it included every feature I wanted.

I'm still in the process of tweaking it to my liking, so you'll hear more dumb questions from me in the next few days, but the server is working, everyone is happy, and my job is saved. :-)

My thanks to those involved in iRedMail for developing an extraordinarily useful tool.

Mainly for those reasons:

I want a mail system that is so-called KGS (Known good Set) i.e. several core components (postfix, clamav, etc) just work well together and don't step on each others toes

fast deployment

repetetive deployment which guarantees to cater fot the exact same result e.g. depoying the same setup for 2 or more customers

4)
something that provides email as well as mailing lists

5)
project needs to be active i.e. forseable and ongoing development

6)
have the full participation of the technical community and hence knowledge base benefits.

It uses mainstream, tried and tested components. For example, there is citadel, a great piece of software but then I want mainstream components that's why I am here ... at iRedMail ...

has to work flawless within OpenVZ VEs (Virtual Environments) http://sunoano.name/ws/public_xhtml/openvz.html It seems iRedMail considers that important which is good. That's why I am here. That's why I am going to stay.

stable i.e. in case of Debian, if it picks from stable repos, that is good ... peace of mind. Also as mentioned, it's good iRedMail is more or less a smart metapackage since, if all goes wrong, the power of the underlying distribution makes it possible to not get in huge troubles because of some possible SLAs (Service Level Agreements) one might have with customers.

as mandatory as is the must-be support for OpenVZ, for us things need to work with Debian. We are on a 100% Debian infrastructure. That is not going to change. Actually I think it's quite the opposite ... the number of Debian installations resp. free software in general is going to see major boosts in the future. Just recently I read an article that China has now become the biggest "User" of free software. Imho we will see an explosion of free software usage within the next two or so decades.

2. It allows the SysAd to install all the core component in only one setup process and in a few minutes.

3. This is a COMPLETE solution. A hard work is commonly needed to have all that components working together with no errors.

1. (one of) the right way to build an open source mail server solution? Most components used in iRedMail are provided by Linux distributions officially. it means iRedMail users can get software update support as long time as the distribution itself.
   Yes, this is the most interesting property. There was some Mail-Server with simple installation such as Zimbra but not easy to inherit its packet for other system, so should not think about upgrade.

2. Stable?
   It will live as long as the postfix

3. Full-featured?
   Yes, but not enough. We can wait it later.

4. Great customer support via forum? Installation, migration, integration.
   Like other open-source project, we should not ask too much. But the current can not be better I am satisfied. It seems that you (and your team) just focus to some Linux distro, especially RH family. I don't think I know much about Ubuntu but I will try to help you to improve the support in Ubuntu better.
