Topic: can't recieve mail

Hi!

I just followed a tutorial on howtoforge ( http://howtoforge.com/iredmail-mail-ser … bian-5.0.1 ) on howto install iRedMail. Everything went smooth and the installation didn't report any error.

Of course the first thing is to try it out if it works. I login to roundcubemail and to send a mail to a gmail account and I recieve the mail. So sending is working. The next thing I try is to send from gmail to mydomain.net, but I don't recieve the mail :S

I've tried to google it, but I can't find anything usefull. My ports on firewall are open. The /var/log/mail.log shows no error or rejection, only the usual stuff(logging..).

If I try to send mail from user1@mydomain.net to user2@mydomain.net it does get recieved.

A friendly person on irc channel #iredmail pointed out to me that it could be a filter problem.

Does anyone have an idea?

Btw great work on iRedMail, it makes making mail server much easier;)

Re: can't recieve mail

Please paste related log messages in /var/log/maillog or /var/log/mail.log.

I think you will receive the mail moment later due to greylist.

I replaced the actual mails.. what I noticed is that I never get any information about receiving a mail. If I send on local mail user1@mydomain.net to user2@mydomain.net it doesn't show up in mail.log

could it maybe be something wrong with the DNS?

you can use command test the dns setting.

C:\>nslookup
Default Server: gjjdial.bta.net.cn
Address: 202.106.195.68

> server ns.xinnet.cn
Default Server: ns.xinnet.cn
Addresses: 202.10.71.52, 123.100.7.202

> set type=txt
> 18demo.com
Server: ns.xinnet.cn
Addresses: 202.10.71.52, 123.100.7.202

18demo.com      text =

        "v=spf1 ip4:207.154.202.216 -all"

> set type=mx
> 18demo.com
Server:  vnsc-pri.sys.gtei.net
Address:  4.2.2.1

Non-authoritative answer:
18demo.com      MX preference = 20, mail exchanger = mail.18demo.com

Re: can't recieve mail

I was having this same issue until I fixed our DNS. We use GoDaddy.com for our DNS and it was relatively simple to set up the MX & SPF records correctly. I also had my ISP set up an rDNS (reverse DNS) to our mail server host name.

Unfortunately every DNS solution is a little different from the next so there is not one definitive answer about what proper DNS entries should look like.

Re: can't recieve mail

thanks everyone for the help. The problem was indeed in DNS after I've set up the MX & SPF record I got an error in mail.log.
After that I just had to fix 2 lines

myhostname was set to the name of the computer -> changed to my domain

and mynetworks was set to localhost

Hi, I have the same problem, and I am a beginner and I have installed iRedMail in a fresh box (Ubuntu 9.04). I can to receive mails from my localhost but I can not to receive mails from external addresses as gmail. How can I repair that?

Do you already setup correct DNS records?

Re: can't recieve mail

What do you guys use to test for the correct DNS setting; I am on Debian and i use

dig example.com mx

Is there a better way to check if the MX records points to the IP running irm?
