This question must have been asked before but I don't seem to find an answer.

I have an existing license for iRedAdmin-Pro (perpetual license) from 2012.

The server I have is old and runs an old version of Ubuntu. This has limitations in terms of libraries available etc. Can I make a completely clean install and use the existing license?

No.

New iRedMail releases usually have some SQL/LDAP structure changes, so old iRedAdmin-Pro doesn't work with newer iRedMail releases.
