Hi,

I installed Iredmail sometime back and have been using it to send mails from my website. I recently created a mail id for myself using the roundcube admin to send mails manually from a personal id which I use to successfully send mails. However it doesn't receive mails and gives the following error:

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

     abhilash@offcampus.in

Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for the recipient domain offcampus.in by us2.mx3.mailhostbox.com. [208.91.199.226].

The error that the other server returned was:
550-5.1.1 <abhilash@offcampus.in>: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual alias table
550 5.1.1 Please see http://support.mailhostbox.com/email-ad … ror-codes/ for explanation of the problem.

Mail domain 'offcampus.in' has 4 mail servers defined in its DNS MX record, with same priority.

offcampus.in.        1000    IN    MX    100 us2.mx1.mailhostbox.com.
offcampus.in.        1000    IN    MX    100 mail.offcampus.in.
offcampus.in.        1000    IN    MX    100 us2.mx2.mailhostbox.com.
offcampus.in.        1000    IN    MX    100 us2.mx3.mailhostbox.com.

Are they yours? Or, is your iRedMail server one of them?

I suppose 'mail.offcampus.in' is your iRedMail server? if yes, please increase its priority from 100 to, e.g. 50. The lower priority NUMBER has HIGHER priority.

Hi Zhang,

Yes, the one - mail.offcmapus.in is mine. I think the others are default settings that I had left untouched.

The MX record on my bigrock panel shows:
2                28445457           mail.offcampus.in           1           mail.offcampus.in           Active

Here 1 is the priority as mentioned there.
I believe the MX record you are refering to has been set up on my server somehow? Am I right?
I don't remember creating this file and might have created it using some sort of tutorial. Can you tell me where I can edit the file to do the respective change?

I must extend my gratitude and many thanks to you for helping me out.
Regards

I have made the suggested changes on my DNS provider's terminal. I guess I'll have to wait till the modified records are propagated.

Thanks a lot Zhang. Your help is much appreciated.

Re: Unable to receive mails but able to send mails.

Hi Zhang,

As per your suggestion, I realized I didn't need those entries and removed all the entries similar to:

offcampus.in.        1000    IN    MX    100 us2.mx1.mailhostbox.com

Now, I am able to receive the mails. but I am not able to send mails to other domains. Why should that happen, it was working fine earlier. As seen on another post, I changed the chroot entry to n in the master.cf file and also tried restarting the iredapd.

This is the error i get on te errorlog when I try sending a mail.:

NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from mail.offcampus.in[127.0.0.1]: 450 4.1.2 <abhilashlenka@gmail.com>: Recipient address rejected: Domain not found; from=<postmaster@offcampus.in> to=<abhilashlenka@gmail.com> proto=ESMTP helo=<_>

Aug  9 15:44:13 mail postfix/submission/smtpd[5784]: disconnect from mail.offcampus.in[127.0.0.1]

While trying to send a mail directly from my website, it gives the following error:
