Topic: iRedMail without any database like normal PostFix / Dovecot

So far I knew how to install Postfix + Dovecot to setup an email server.

iRedMail server installs MySQL or Postgre

Now what if I don't want to install MySQL or any other database and instead just leave it to Postfix and Dovecot to store user and emails in the conventional way as they have been doing before

*) Would you mind sharing why you prefer a mail server without SQL database?
*) You can store mail accounts in plain text file. for example, use it in Postfix as "hash:" file.
*) Webmail, iRedAPD and other applications still require SQL database, how do you solve this?

With MySQL because iRedMail prefers fresh install on a server. if MySQL is installed before hand then it causes conflict and issues

Yes I prefer hash file

I would want to bypass all other applications except for Postfix and Dovecot

Possible solution is: setup a new/fresh server, then install iRedMail on it. Migrate your other applications and SQL databases to iRedMail server.

We have no plan to build a mail server with only hash files.

i have a similar question (to this old thread)
i dont needed mysql or openldp since i connect everything to my Microsoft-AD.

Always installed "openldap" cause it has "ldap" in his name big_smile
But i dont need it ...
i mean it dont "hurts" installing it - i guess - but it would be cleaner just dont install a backend ...
