Hello iredmail team,

we are using iredmail for some time now and are realy happy with results.
Today i stumbled over a new issue. Its somewhat mail relaying relatet.

for example: my domain is "lingo" info@lingo.de its configured online at the main server we use the iredmail server localy with the per domain transfer you preconfigured for us. if i send a mail from info@lingo.de to mail@lingo.de it will be transferred on the local iredmail server. for all other domains the mails are going out via SMTP

Route local to local traffic through domain relayhost

thx in advance

I don't quite follow, could you please tell us why you want the email sent from local domain to another (or same) local domain via relayhost?

Re: Route local to local traffic through domain relayhost

We have a online server witch is managed by 1and1 we fetching the mails to our Intranet server.
Sometimes we want to send a mail from our domain to a colleague who is not in the area.  He has to get the mails from the main server. The problem problem is that he will ot see a mail that is sent from mail@mydomain (local) to mail@mydomain (online) since its delivered only local on the intranet server.  In order for the other members to get the mails from the main server they have to go there.

Re: Route local to local traffic through domain relayhost

Hello.
After looking at the links below I tried and failed. I don’t know if I configured it wrong or misinterpreted something.

http://www.postfix.org/postconf.5.html#mydestination

I hope someone had a similar experience and have a working solution.

Re: Route local to local traffic through domain relayhost

There's conflict in your use case.

If emails sent to user@domain should ALWAYS delivered to same server, there's a solution (with per-user transport like 'smtp:[another_server]'). But if sometimes the email should be delivered to another host, i have no idea.

Re: Route local to local traffic through domain relayhost

Thank you for your time and explanation.
The Mail System concept is not made for what we wished it to be so I have to live with it.
Maybe in the future the new mail system that is in development by google and IBM is more flexible
in that matter.

Maybe this is better solution for my work flow:
http://emailrelay.sourceforge.net/
I have to see if can change the now working iredmail server to be like a mail proxy wich can store mails (cache them for a specified time) or so.

Maybe this would be a nice addon in iredmail.
iredmail mail proxy option wink
something like that.

Thanks again.

Re: Route local to local traffic through domain relayhost

Do we have the option to choose this kind of functionality in the future?
E-MailRelay simple SMTP proxy
I think this would improve the irdmail server considerably.

Would you mind sharing your solution?

Re: Route local to local traffic through domain relayhost

After a looking around i found the solution in mail relaying.

there are two options for this. Hope i did understand this right.

I can either change postfix config to relay mails

or

i can setup postfix to use it as a SMTP proxy.

But i dont know if i can change my current iRedMail Server into one of them.
I thought it would be better to close this post and create a new one so that no one
gets confused because of the topic name.  wink
