Re: Unable to send/receive mails from outside domains

1) Your MX Record is broken. You have two @MX records pointing to mail.thedpl.in but they don't resolve to any IP Address. Apparently there is no A Record at mail.thedpl.in.
http://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?act … n=toolpage

This is most likely the cause to both of your issues, but at minimum the second.

Re: Unable to send/receive mails from outside domains

Thank you 7t3chguy for your reply,

Our domain provider is godaddy and static ip is 117.218.3.254
In the domain zone maintenance page of godaddy we have set up the MX records as following way:

10    117.218.3.254    mail.thedpl.in    1 Hour
0    117.218.3.254    mail.thedpl.in    1 Hour

Quite interestingly, we have started receiving the mails from other domain(gmail) but it takes quite a long time to receive the mails.
While, the outgoing mails are continuing to bounce back.

Re: Unable to send/receive mails from outside domains

Is there an
A Record at mail.thedpl.in?

5

Re: Unable to send/receive mails from outside domains

Now there are no MX records at your domain:

In the MX editor of godaddy, We have modiefied the records as follows:

Priority    Host                Points To    TTL    Actions
0          117.218.3.254    @          1 Hour
10          117.218.3.254    @          1 Hour

We have actually entered thedpl.in in "Points to" section but after saving the zone, it was saved as @.

Screen shot is also enclosed.

Re: Unable to send/receive mails from outside domains

The mxtoolbox link I provided still shows no mx. Let's give it some time for the DNS to propagate

I have just spoken to godaddy India support and came to know that MX modification will take 24-48 hrs to get updated.
I will inform you the status once it gets updated.
Thank you once again.

Hi 7t3chguy,

Just to keep you updated on the issue I am facing(not able to send mails to other domains), I have tested our domain, thedpl.in through MXtoolbox for IP Blacklisting and found that the IP is black listed. Is it the root cause behind not able to send mails to outside domain? The screen shot is attached.

So, how to de-blacklist the our static IP address?

14

Re: Unable to send/receive mails from outside domains

You'll have to contact each of the lists and prove that you do not send Spam, sometimes this also involves an admin fee for them to remove your IP from the blacklist.

Our ISP is BSNL, which is a Govt Utility and the IP has not been used in the last 5 years.
This IP is forwarding all the requests (port 443 for HTTPS,25 for SMTP and 110 for POP3) to our mail server through port forwarding.
I was going through SPAMHAUSE and came to know that NAT router sometime causes these problems.
No solution is given there though.

Re: Unable to send/receive mails from outside domains

I've not heard that NAT causes such issues. Last time I checked, NAT was pretty transparent. I know Dynamic IPs causing blacklisting, but as you said its Static. Your best bet is just to contact them. (or get your hands on another ip) (or use a service such as mailgun)

The problem may also be caused by Reverse DNS. The public IP(117.218.3.254) we are using might not be validated by our domain(thedpl.in). I have made another change in our domain maintenance page, by adding a SPF entry in TXT records. The screen shot is attached. Can you please take a loot at it?

Re: Unable to send/receive mails from outside domains

That looks fine. Get your rDNS set to your domain (contact the isp)
This won't impact spamhaus and most other of those blacklists

I have made the necessary modification. Lets wait for 48 hours for it to get propagated.

Host        TXT Value                                      TTL          Actions
@    v=spf1 ip4:117.218.3.254 ~all             1 Hour
@    v=spf1 mx ptr ptr:117.218.3.254 ~all     1 Hour

Re: Unable to send/receive mails from outside domains

Those aren't rDNS. rDNS can only be set by the ISP as it requires them to change the DNS value of the IP's ARPA Address. You need to contact the ISP to change your rDNS.
Also, you shouldn't have two SPF records, some servers aren't happy with them.

Re: Unable to send/receive mails from outside domains

We can now send and receive the mails, thanks a lot for your prompt response.
