Topic: Keep getting a freshclam warning message in my logwatch report

==== Required information ====
- iRedMail version: 0.8.6
- Store mail accounts in which backend (LDAP/MySQL/PGSQL):  MySQL
- Linux/BSD distribution name and version:  CentOS 6.5 x64bit
- Related log if you're reporting an issue: "No updates detected in the log for the freshclam daemon (the
ClamAV update process).  If the freshclam daemon is not running,
you may need to restart it.  Other options:"

I keep getting the above message as of a fresh install of iRedmail, what could be the reason for this? I did try and restart using service freshclam but nothing happens just comes up with this:

"freshclam: unrecognized service"

Thanks in advance,
Jeremy.

Re: Keep getting a freshclam warning message in my logwatch report

The service name should be 'freshclamd' on CentOS.

Re: Keep getting a freshclam warning message in my logwatch report

It's still not in the service or /etc/init.d/ list of services though.

I mean I'm not being funny but would it be possible to copy the old init.d script from my previous installation of iRedMail,  is there much (if any) difference to freshclam included in iRedmail 0.8.4 compared with the up to date one at all?

If there isn't any differences put it another way would I have to copy over one or many files  in the services folder i.e. /etc/init.d/?

I appreciate any reply in advance,
Jeremy

Re: Keep getting a freshclam warning message in my logwatch report

*) You can copy /etc/init.d/freshclamd to give it a try, but not recommended to copy all files under /etc/init.d/.
*) Could you please show us output of below commands:

# rpm -qf /etc/init.d/freshclamd
# ls /etc/init.d/

Re: Keep getting a freshclam warning message in my logwatch report

rpm -qf /etc/init.d/freshclamd

Brought up:

error: file /etc/init.d/freshclamd: No such file or directory

Re: Keep getting a freshclam warning message in my logwatch report

Do you have clamav package installed? Please show us output of command:

# rpm -qa | grep -i 'clam'

Re: Keep getting a freshclam warning message in my logwatch report

I do yes and the output of that command is:

clamav-db-0.98.1-1.el6.x86_64
clamd-0.98.1-1.el6.x86_64
clamav-0.98.1-1.el6.x86_64

I have it installed as 'freshclam' is a perfectly valid command just not a service, but when looking at yesterdays logwatch report seems to be working on, interestingly enough this is the output of 'grep -Rn "freshclam" /etc/*' :

/etc/cron.daily/freshclam:7:LOG_FILE="/var/log/clamav/freshclam.log
/etc/cron.daily/freshclam:14:/usr/bin/freshclam \

Is that the way its supposed to be or...?

Re: Keep getting a freshclam warning message in my logwatch report

*) Could you please show us output of below commands:

# ls /etc/init.d/
# rpm -qi clamav
# rpm -qi clamd

Re: Keep getting a freshclam warning message in my logwatch report

OK, i checked it on my server, looks like EPEL packed this package as a daily cron job. So you don't need /etc/init.d/freshclamd anymore.

# yum provides '*/freshclam'
...
clamav-db-0.98-2.el6.x86_64 : Virus database for clamav
Repo : epel
Matched from:
Filename : /etc/cron.daily/freshclam
Filename : /etc/logrotate.d/freshclam
...
