I'm wondering if it would be possible to encrypt the /var/vmail folder using Truecrypt or encfs.  I already have many users and emails stored, and I'm worried that if I try to encrypt the folder, iRedMail (or dovecot) might not recognize it or might not be able to use it properly.  Has this been done before?  Is there anything I should keep in mind (or any warnings) if I decide to do this?  Thanks for your help.

Hi Phil,

A tutorial was written about this on a different site.  However, it applies to the WHOLE directory, not users individually.

AFAIK you will need to enter your password when you mount the directory.

Use at your own risk, iRedMail will not support it.
