Hello,

Firstly excuse me if this issue has been previously discussed or the problem I'm having is a result of my relative inexperience in the world of self hosting email software. Here goes..

Everything installed and works just fine for the domain I defined which is mail.myhost.com. Now I logged into iRedAdmin, created a new domain (myhost.com), created a new user, logged into webmail successfully, tried to send two test emails: one to myself (i.e. my email is say... info@myhost.com, i tried to send it to info@myhost.com). The other to a gmail account I have (which is why I'm trying to host my own email in the first place..). The results are I did not receive the email sent to myself, nor did the one sent to the gmail account get delivered either. The interesting thing is this: they are both in my sent folder. I received no errors. The logs all look clear. I am quite confused as I see no point of failure, yet no email is sent using the new domain. I really want myhost.com instead of mail.myhost.com in my email addresses.

How can I resolve this so I can have the domain I want in my email addresses AND that most importantly it actually sends the emails.

On a side note, I created a user with the address info@mail.myhost.com and sent a test email and that did work just fine.

Any assistance is appreciated and once again, please excuse my noobness... but if you could try and explain it in not too technical terms I'd appreciate it smile I'm getting my head around all this still.

** UPDATE **
Ok after many many hours I finally got a failure to deliver report from the server (I wonder why it took so long...). I change the name of my domain to "myhost" and the email recipient to "foo@gmail.com" as to not advertise that info. Here is the report:

This is the mail system at host myhost.com.

I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could not
be delivered to one or more recipients. It's attached below.

For further assistance, please send mail to postmaster.

If you do so, please include this problem report. You can
delete your own text from the attached returned message.

                   The mail system

<foo@gmail.com>: connect to 127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1]:10024: Connection refused

so...why was it trying to connect to itself??

My question I suppose still stands as well: How do I use mydomain.com, instead of mail.mydomain.com for my email addresses? If I can add a domain in iredadmin, shouldn't it function as an alias or am I totally misunderstanding the iredadmin domain management aspect of the tool?

Thanks, i look forward to a prompt reply!

Sure no problem. Here it is:

sudo service amavisd start
amavisd: unrecognized service

I have to run out, but I can get the log to you as soon as possible. smile

Re: new domain in iRedAdmin, recipient not receiving

Why not just step further and check whether there's a amavisd script under /etc/init.d/? It's /etc/init.d/amavis on Debian/Ubuntu.

Ok sorry for the delay, been a crazy weekend...

Here's pretty much what the log tells me (though it only goes back a few days and not far back to the day I ran into the issue, however as of today nothing seems to have changed so it's still perfectly relevant).

I replaced my hostname with "foo". As mentioned, during setup of iRedMail I used mail.foo.com and it sent the email just fine. I don't want my email addresses to be bob@mail.foo.com though, I want it to be bob@foo.com so I'm rather befuddled as to why adding that domain/alias in iredadmin doesn't work. Here's the result for looking if there's a amavisd script under /etc/init.d/

there is an

amavis

under /etc/init.d/:

/etc/init.d# ls
acpid friendly-recovery plymouth single
amavis ...

I cut the paste short, you get the idea.

I also checked the status of amavis:
sudo service amavis start
Starting amavisd: amavisd-new.

So i suppose it's running now. I'll try to send an email and see what happens. I'll keep this thread posted. I have to run to a meeting, so I'll update this soon!

** UPDATE **

Ok.. oddly enough it seems i can receive emails to the info@foo.com email/domain after all... how surprisingly odd. I tried to send an email from info@foo.com. I have a feeling sending will fail. Log:

[strike]So i'm thoroughly confused... why would receiving an email at info@foo.com work, while sending fails? Send/receive works on @mail.foo.com. :\[/strike]

Well as of the writing of this, actually send/receive on either @foo.com or @mail.foo.com seem to fail. wtf sad

Any news on this issue I'm having? I'm getting close to just doing a reinstall :\

Re: new domain in iRedAdmin, recipient not receiving

ClamAV service is not running. Try this:

# freshclam # <- It takes some time, please be patient.
# /etc/init.d/clamav-freshclam restart
# /etc/init.d/clamav-daemon restart

Then try to send/receive mails again.

Re: new domain in iRedAdmin, recipient not receiving

Excuse the double post. It seems the problem was lack of RAM. I added more to my host and it seems to be running now. I'll keep the thread posted in case anything else pops up. Thanks for all the asisstance!

Re: new domain in iRedAdmin, recipient not receiving

iRedMail requires at least 1GB memory for production use. It's mentioned in installation guide, section "System Requirements":

Indeed. I thought I had 1GB, but was mistaken. However, I learned a bit out of the experience about iRedMail so it was still beneficial to go through the troubleshooting.

On a side note, there are a few questions I have, and maybe you can answer them ZhangHuangbin..

a) What and/or where would the login be for the awstats?
b) The installation said it would pretty much lock down phpmyadmin, but I have other databases I need i migrate. Any way to unlock it? (or perhaps have a separate phpmyadmin and db's for the other apps? but that's a question for another forum)
c) is there a clean way to transfer all emails from a webmail account such as gmail over to an email account on roundcube and preserve dates?

I know they are off topic fromthe original post but I figured while i have your attention I might as well ask. If I could get an answer, that would be great, if not, I can move them to the appropriate threads (or create a thread if necessary). Thanks in advance either way smile

It's mentioned in file "iRedMail.tips". It's generated during iRedMail installation, under iRedMail installation directory. For example: /root/iRedMail-0.8.5/iRedMail.tips.

Thank you very much for answering the questions though slightly offtopic from OP. I will post any new questions or further questions in a new thread. Thanks again!
