Topic: Backup MX Timings

LDAP backend
centos 5.5
iRedAdmin version 1.1.0
Relay Setting Default is: dovecot

Is there any setting for a timing period for a domain that's configured as a backup? e.g. 72 hours?

Re: Backup MX Timings

It's up to your DNS provider. Usually, DNS provider will cache for 2 hours.

Thanks are you talking about the TTL for the domain in the DNS?

PS. i now it's old and it's been running for some time with no issues, we may replace one day!

Yes.

Re: Backup MX Timings

So the TTL of the domain is direclty related to the length of time a backup mail server will keep the mail?

e.g.

TTL 10 min

mx 10 mail1.noone.com
mx 20 mail2.noone.com

If MX 10 goes offline mx 20 will keep the mail for 10 min, while trying to contact mx 10

Please excuse my duplication, I want to understand it so I can make adjustment to my TTL.

If the TTL was 72 hours mx 20 would keep the mail for 72 hours?

No.
It's better to do some research with Google.
