====

I've searched this forum, because my issue seems to simple to not have occurred elsewhere, but I am simply not able to figure it out unfortunately, so I need a little help. I am likely missing something obvious.

Outgoing mail works perfectly, but incoming mail is getting recipient rejected. The above log file extract (sudo grep test /var/log/maillog) shows both the outgoing message and the reply to it coming back and getting rejected.

Please point in the right direction for solving this if possible. Let me know if additional information or logs are needed to help me address this.

Thanks!

Please just paste the original log message, don't filter them.

Is there any related log in /var/log/sieve.log and /var/log/dovecot.log?

P.S. Glad to see another OpenBSD box. smile

I repeated the test so I could get a clean logs and not have to filter.

Strangely, no sieve.log :-S

I noticed something else, outgoing mail works from my mac using imap to my openBSD, outgoing mail does not work from roundcubemail. It says SMTP Error (250): Authentication failed. This seems to be related to the following log entry:

Jul 30 20:20:52 pluto roundcube: SMTP server does not support authentication ():
Jul 30 20:20:52 pluto roundcube: SMTP Error: SMTP error: Authentication failure: SMTP server does not support authentication (Code: ) in /var/www/roundcubemail/program/include/main.inc on line 1745 (POST /mail/?_unlock=loading1343672451629&_lang=undefined?_task=mail&_action=send)

I don't use webmail much, so not important for me, but it may be indicative in light of the other issue, so I thought I'd mention it.

Re: [RESOLVED] Unable to receive e-mail

Now I have a sieve.log as well

Jul 30 21:00:07 lda(anton): Fatal: setgid(1001(vmail) from mail_gid setting) failed with euid=1000(anton), gid=1000(anton), egid=1000(anton): Operation not permitted (This binary should probably be called with process group set to 1001(vmail) instead of 1000(anton))

This I also see mentioned elsewhere on the forum.

I added anton to group vmail using usermod -g vmail anton. This did not help though. I do note that sieve only logs this error a while after I see the recipient rejected in maillog. So possibly a secondary issue, not sure.

This is another issue not related to the one you mentioned in your first forum post. This can be solved by add an alias address in /etc/postfix/aliases for your system account "anton". For example:

- Add below line in /etc/postfix/aliases. Replace user@domain.ltd by a real email address so that you can receive the email.

anton: user@domain.ltd

- Execute postalias command to update alias db. Postfix will detect this change without reload/restart.

# postalias /etc/postfix/aliases

The issue in your first post is still not clear, please send one more testing email and check /var/log/sieve.log.

Re: [RESOLVED] Unable to receive e-mail

Ah right, I'd put in an alias for mail, but it's an alias for anton it needed. Silly me.

Sent another test e-mail. Sieve now looks like this:

Jul 31 09:31:42 lda(anton@sekerict.com): Info: msgid=<20120730090006.9AB662619C@pluto.sekerict.com>: saved mail to INBOX
Jul 31 09:31:42 lda(anton@sekerict.com): Info: msgid=<20120730190007.0F5A52618A@pluto.sekerict.com>: saved mail to INBOX
Jul 31 09:31:42 lda(anton@sekerict.com): Info: msgid=<20120730180006.A26492618A@pluto.sekerict.com>: saved mail to INBOX

These are however not the e-mail that is incoming from external, they seem to be related to the cron daemon mailing me these three messages:

1:
from: Cron Daemon <root@pluto.sekerict.com>
to: root@pluto.sekerict.com
subject: Cron <root@pluto> bash /var/vmail/backup/backup_mysql.sh

/bin/sh: bash: not found

2:
from: Cron Daemon <root@pluto.sekerict.com>
to: root@pluto.sekerict.com
subject: Cron <root@pluto> /usr/bin/newsyslog

iredapd(ok)
iredapd(ok)

3:
from: Cron Daemon <root@pluto.sekerict.com>
to: root@pluto.sekerict.com
subject: Cron <root@pluto> /usr/bin/newsyslog

/usr/local/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)'

So still nothing relevant in sieve.log I think.

In the meantime I'm reading up on Postfix/Dovecot to gain more understanding myself. But it is complex for me.

bash lives in /usr/local/bin and was installed on my box for iredmail specifically.

Re: [RESOLVED] Unable to receive e-mail

Finally, I figured it out. And ofcourse (but I was expecting that from the start) the mistake is all mine. It was actually looking at the maillog again that I suddenly saw the light. It says that smtpd is rejecting the recipient. What is smtpd doing there? It should be postfix/smtpd!

So what was going on was that a partially configured other smtpd instance was snatching the messages away in front of postfix. That's also why nothing ever ended up in sieve.log. I probably play around with smptd when it was made an integral part of OpenBSD recently and forgot all about it.

Thanks for all your help ZhangHuangbin! And thanks for this excellent product as well, because it does take a lot of the headache of installing all these separate tools away.

Oh and thanks for you guys supporting OpenBSD. I love it to bits, but not many developers tend to support it well ;-)

OpenBSD is my favourite OS. And, please help spread iRedMail. smile

Will do! Although being a one-man company it won't have huge impact :-)
