Topic: iRedmail questions.

First of all I would like to acknowledge you guys for developing this script. I have a goal to finish in 5 days with regards to setting up a mail server, I'm considering on using the one on howtoforge.net (uhh is it ok to post links here, sorry mods if ever its not allow) titled; iRedMail: Build A Full-Featured Mail Server With LDAP, Postfix, RoundCube, Dovecot, ClamAV,SpamAssassin, DKIM, SPF On CentOS 5.x

the things I just have to consider though are does this script use maildir as a default mail format? because i'll be migrating like 500-600 users..

next is i wanna add atmail webmail as an alternate webmail client to roundcube.. and lastly could I add postfixadmin here to manage the email accounts?

thanks...

Re: iRedmail questions.

Postfixadmin is already installed and you can use it.
Maildir is the default format, but you can change that if you want.
See here:
http://code.google.com/p/iredmail/wiki/ … ation_Tips

I don't see why you can't add it if it allowed you to connect to a database to get the information.

3

Re: iRedmail questions.

Of course you can add extra components after you deployed iRedMail.

Note: PostfixAdmin only available when you use MySQL backend to store virtual domains & users.

Re: iRedmail questions.

thanks for the fast reply. @ scrummie02 really appreciate it. yes as I see it postfixadmin was already added, and maildir is the default format. I have another inquiry sir, is there a step by step guide that could teach me to use mysql instead of ldap/

thanks alot..

Re: iRedmail questions.

The steps is the same as the tutorial you saw on Howtoforge, and here is *official* installation guide (for RHEL/CentOS 5.x):
http://code.google.com/p/iredmail/wiki/Installation

PS: iRedMail -current works on Debian 5.0.1 and Ubuntu 9.04 (one issue retained on 8.04, will be fixed later):

Re: iRedmail questions.

If you install iRedmail with LDAP, you can still get a gui for the postifx configuration files via the webmin interface. Can install via yum after doing yum update, then yum install webmin.

9

Re: iRedmail questions.

If you use wehmin, please comment below lines in /etc/postfix/main.cf:

mail_name =
mail_version =

Webmin uses them to detect MTA and version.

10

Re: iRedmail questions.

thanks guys for the guidelines, i haven't started on the mail server yet. my machine is not here yet big_smile hehe

i'd be doing it via my sql tho smile

I try to use webmin manage iredmail ldap, but seem the webmin support ldap not very well.

Re: iRedmail questions.

I think your hostname not setting correctly.

reuqire use FQDN name.

http://code.google.com/p/iredmail/wiki/Installation

read the guide setting the hostname

Re: iRedmail questions.

I was able to fix the fqdn issue but.

I cannot recieve mails from the outside. I can send mails from my server to google, I just can't recieve mails from google and the mails the are sent from google receives a delivery failed report.

here's testing@dec.edu.ph

still I can't resolve the issue on receiving mails coming from the outside.

btw, how can I disable the IPTables that was shipped with iredmail on startup?

16

Re: iRedmail questions.

it doesnt even go to /var/log/maillog if i try to send a mail to mydomain from google. neutral

17

Re: iRedmail questions.

No error in the log you posted.

how can I disable the IPTables that was shipped with iredmail on startup?

Run command:

# /etc/init.d/iptables stop

If you want do disable it on system startup, run:

# chkconfig --level 345 iptables off

Re: iRedmail questions.

zhang, is there a way to somehow stop or disable the greylisting? and another thing, ill start the migration for the users.. i need some help.

the current mail server's home directories is like this:
[root@mail Maildir]# pwd
/home/vpopmail/domains/dec.edu.ph/aaestabillo/Maildir
[root@mail Maildir]# ls -la
total 44
drwx------  9 vpopmail vchkpw 4096 Feb 19 15:56 .
drwx------  3 vpopmail vchkpw 4096 Oct 15  2008 ..
drwx------  2 vpopmail vchkpw 4096 Feb 19 15:56 courierimapkeywords
-rw-r--r--  1 vpopmail vchkpw   36 Feb 19 15:56 courierimapsubscribed
-rw-r--r--  1 vpopmail vchkpw   15 Feb 19 15:56 courierimapuiddb
drwx------  2 vpopmail vchkpw 4096 Oct 15  2008 cur
drwx------  6 vpopmail vchkpw 4096 Feb 19 15:56 .Drafts
drwx------  2 vpopmail vchkpw 4096 May 18 16:46 new
drwx------  6 vpopmail vchkpw 4096 Feb 19 15:56 .Sent
drwx------  2 vpopmail vchkpw 4096 May 18 16:46 tmp
drwx------  6 vpopmail vchkpw 4096 Feb 19 15:56 .Trash

lets say ill now migrate this said user to iredmail's format.

what should i do? to preserve the details and all. I mean i still want the users to access their old inbox, sent, drafts etc that was used from qmailtoaster to iredmail's

syntax-error wrote:

Edit /etc/policyd.conf, change 'GREYLISTING' to 0:

# File: /etc/policyd.conf
GREYLIST=0

Restart policyd service:

# /etc/init.d/policyd restart

# pwd
/home/vpopmail/domains/dec.edu.ph/aaestabillo/Maildir

User's mailbox path is defined in:

  • 'mail_location' setting in /etc/dovecot.conf, and /etc/dovecot-mysql.conf (or /etc/dovecot-ldap.conf).

  • Dovecot queries mailbox location from mysql: vmail.mailbox (column: maildir).

Make sure you know the real path before you migrate it.

lets say ill now migrate this said user to iredmail's format.
what should i do?

iRedMail uses maildir format by default.

Summary of migration:

* Copy user's whole Maildir/ directory to iRedMail server, make sure it's the correct path.
* Set correct owner/group and file permission recursively on Maildir/ directory:

# chown -R vmail:vmail /path/to/new/Maildir/
# chmod -R 0700 /path/to/new/Maildir/

* Log into webmail (or MUA, like thunderbird or whatever you like), check whether you can read the mails you copied in above steps.

That's all.

Maybe i missed something, please correct me.
It's great if you write down the whole migration steps and share it smile

Re: iRedmail questions.

hey zhang, thanks for the guidelines, another question tho, the current mail server is using courier imap, do i have to convert the to dovecot? iredmail uses dovecot..

21

Re: iRedmail questions.

sweet i got it working without even converting it

22

Re: iRedmail questions.

Dovecot will ignore files it doesn't used in user's Maildir/, such as:

drwx------ 2 vpopmail vchkpw 4096 Feb 19 15:56 courierimapkeywords
-rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 36 Feb 19 15:56 courierimapsubscribed
-rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 15 Feb 19 15:56 courierimapuiddb

They are courier-imap/pop3 needed. Like courier-imap, dovecot will create several files in user's Maildir too.
